Before signing a lease, it’s important for students to understand their rights, responsibilities and the terms of their rental agreement. Off-Campus Housing provides lease review support to help students better understand their agreements and address any questions before moving in.
Students securing a rental can book an appointment with a trained staff member for support. The team can answer questions or review a lease to help ensure everything is in good standing.
Prepare Yourself: Landlord Inquiry Checklist
When communicating with a landlord, students should consider asking the following questions:
- What is the breakdown of the rent?
- Are there any additional fees or costs?
- What is the expected move-in date and is that flexible?
- What are acceptable payment methods?
- Is a guarantor or references required?
- Is the rental pet-friendly?
- Are there guest policies or restrictions?
- Are there rules around decorating or making changes to the property?
- Is subletting permitted?
